Horseback riding can be super fun. Whether you're an old pro or a first-timer, you are sure to have a blast galloping at full speed on a horse! However, before you hop on the horse, make sure you buy and wear the right horseback riding attire. Not doing so could result in injury or discomfort for you!

You don't have to go out and buy a brand new wardrobe of expensive gear, especially if you don't plan to make horseback riding a frequent occurrence, but you should at least invest in a few items that will keep you protected and ensure an enjoyable ride.

Always Wear Pants

To start off with, no matter what you do, keep one basic rule in mind: always wear pants when you go horseback riding!

Many first-timers will make the mistake of wearing shorts or capris when they go riding, but this is never smart. Clothing like this does not offer any protection for your legs and will also  make it so that your legs have to come into direct contact with the horse, which can be uncomfortable.

Furthermore, not wearing pants almost always means chafing will occur as your legs rub against the horse's saddle. To avoid all of these discomforts, make sure you choose pants for riding.

Go for a Fitted Shirt

When it comes to what to wear up top, the key is to go with a shirt that is fitted and adheres well to your form. This is not to say that your shirt has to be super tight and uncomfortable, but it should not be overly large or loose.

Shirts that are too loose can easily get tangled in the saddle, catch on branches, or pose other safety hazards. Your best bet is to buy specially designed horse riding shirts for women and men so that you can ensure a proper, safe fit.

Wear Sensible Shoes

Finally, when it comes to shoes, think sensible! You do not want to try and ride a horse in flip-flops, open-toed sandals, or high heels. This will only cause trouble and great difficulty, and the same is true for trying to ride a horse barefoot; don't even think about it!

You need sensible, closed-toed shoes that have good grip and will fit securely in the saddle's stirrups.

If you can follow these simple tips in terms of what horse riding protective clothing to wear, there is no reason you can't have a great horseback riding experience!
